A case of pulmonary abscesses in an adult female dromedary camel was reported with history of recent parturition, recurrent fever and recumbency. The necropsy findings revealed congestion and multiple abscesses of varying sized ranging from 5–10 cm in diameter on its caudal lobe containing large amount of fetid grey purulent material. The histopathology revealed exudate in the alveolar spaces and bronchial and bronchiolar lumens. Some alveoli showed presence of Gram negative bacilli. However, the purulent material when cultured aerobically on nutrient and blood agar was found negative for growth of any bacteria. The pus cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar also found negative for growth of any fungus. Based on the literature search, which showed high association of anaerobic bacteria in cases of lung abscess, it is imperative to further explore their role in cases of pulmonary abscesses in camels and other animal species.
