Description An experiment was conducted during 1995-96 and 1996-97 at Shahjahanpur to study the comparativeperformance of sugarcane (Sacchanlm ojficinantm L.) raised through spindle bud culture and conventionalmethods under different dates of planting. The results showed significantly higher cane yield when one month-old plantlets developed by spindle bud culture method were transplanted in the field on the scheduledplanting dates compared with those transplanted one month later or the conventional sett planting on thescheduled dates. Irrespective of methods of planting significant decline in cane Yield was recorded duringboth the years of experimentation by delaying planting from February to May. Commercial cane sugar (%) incane was not altered significantly due to different methods or dates of planting. Planting by spindle budculture at scheduled dates gave significantly higher cane yield than one month delayed transplanting or settplanting specially in April and May.
