Description An experiment was conducted during 2002 and 2003 to determine the effect of different seed rates on yield and yield components of anise (Pimpinella anisum L.) at Van, Turkey. Four different seed rates (5, 10, 15 and 20 kg/ha)were used in a completely randomized block design with 3 replications. The plant height increased but number of branches and umbrella decreased by increasing seed rates. The highest seed yield (562.1 kg/ha) and essential oil yield (15.1 kg/ha) were recorded at 15 kg/ha seed rate. On the contrary the highest values for the number of branches (63.6 branch/ plant), the number of umbrella (12.20 umbrella/plant), 1000- seed weight (3.96 g) and essential oil content (2.74 %) were obtained from 5 kg/ha. Besides the highest plant height (39.26 cm) was determined in the 20 kg/ha seed rate and the highest (40.06 seedslumbrella) seed number were resulted in 10 kg/ha application.
