An unusual case of acute renal failure in a young Kathiawari filly has been reported. The filly was presented for non-specific clinical signs like reduced feed intake, loss of body weight and frequent passing of small quantity of urine. All vital parameters were within normal range. Plasma biochemistry revealed high degree of azotemia (creatinine 16.8 mg/ dL and urea nitrogen 242.5 mg/ dL). Urine had low specific gravity (1.010) with plenty of RBCs, squamous cells and urothelial cells. Response to treatment using intravenous fluid (NSS) and diuretic (furosemide) was encouraging and clinical improvement was observed on the next day. The therapy was continued and plasma urea nitrogen and creatinine concentrations reduced markedly on day 5. After 10 days, plasma creatinine (3.6 mg/ dL) and urea nitrogen (25.2 mg/ dL) reached towards normal limit and owner reported complete clinical cure of the animal.
