The present study was conducted to evaluate the chickpea genotypes for bruchid resistance under laboratory storage condition. A total of 15 genotypes including 9 desi and 6 kabuli types were tested and the resistance in no-choice test was carried out in completely randomized design (CRD) in three replications. Observations were recorded on No. of bruchid emergence, per cent seed damage and per cent seed weight loss after 60 days of storage. The results revealed that none of the tested genotypes were completely resistant to bruchid. However, response varied significantly among genotypes in both desi and kabuli types. Among tested desi genotypes,HIR-60,HIR-70 and HIR-55 were found to be least susceptible with minimum seed damage, while BGD-103 and ICCV-37 were found to be least resistant after 60 days of storage. In kabuli type, the genotype PG-95311 recorded lowest seed damage whereas, KAK-2 recorded highest seed damage In general, the desi types were found to be more tolerant than the kabuli type genotypes.
