Eight species of Pleurotus viz;, P. osteatus, P. sapidus, P. flabellatus, P. florida, P. citrinopileatus, P. cornucopiae, P. eryngii and P. osreatus (strain from Belgium) were evaluated for their namatophagus activity against two mushroom nematodes viz., Aphenlenchoides composticola and P. cornucopiae and P. ostreatus (strain from Belgium) were found to be namatophagus. Nematodes of both the species were immobilized after 30-60 minutes of their exposure to the cultures of these Pleurotus species. After 24-48 hrs, the hyphae of carnivorous Pleurotus species grow towards the nematode and penetrated it through one of the body orifices. Subsequently, the body cavity was filled with hyphal contents. In the next couple of days nematode body was digested. When culture filtrate of these specie were evaluated the nematodes inactivation was achieved after 8 hrs in case of P. ostreatus and P. ostreatus (strain from Belgium), whereas, it took 24-72 hrs for immobilization of nematodes in culture filtrates of other species.
