Aphelenchoides composticola, one of the most damaging mushroom nematodes in India was inactivated and immobilized in Pleurotus sajor-caju culture filtrates within 2 to 4 hours of the exposure whereas it remained mobile and active in A. bitorquis filtrate. Simultaneous spawning of compost with A.bisporus (0.75%) and P.sajor-caju (0.25%) and inoculation of A. composticola (400 larvae/15 kg compost) resulted in remarkable reduction (90%). In nematode population and significant enhancement of yield as compared to the control (devoid of P.sajor-caju spawn but inoculated with A. composticola). Simultaneous spawning of A. bisporus and P.sajor-caju was found to be more effective as compared to addition of P. sajor-caju spawn at casing stage, irrespective of nematode inoculation stage.
