An experiment was conducted in Pune, Maharashtra, India, during July to December 2002. Rooted cuttings of grape rootstock Dog Ridge were planted in the field in January 2002 at a spacing of 10′ × 6′ distance, and 2-3 healthy and well-matured shoots per plant were retained for grafting. The wedge grafting was performed with grape cv. Tas-A-Ganesh as scion (using shoots of 6-8 mm thick) on 8 different dates, i.e. 1 July, 15 July, 30 July, 15 August, 30 August, 15 September, 30 September and 15 October. The grafting date significantly influenced the days taken for sprouting, percentage bud sprout, shoot diameter and percentage successful graft. The grafting performed on 15 September and 15 August had taken relatively less time (10.30 and 13.78 days, respectively) for buds to sprout compared to grafting on 1 July. The thickest shoot was recorded with grafting on 30 July and 15 August. No significant differences were found for shoot and internodal lengths. The percentage bud sprout was maximum (98.47%) when the grafting was performed on 15 September, followed by 30 August. The minimum bud sprout (72.48%) was recorded with grafting on 1 July.
