This chapter focuses on the genetic variation of Indian melons for resistance to fungal, bacterial and viral diseases, nematode and insect pests and tolerance to soil salinity, drought, flooding and high temperature. The importance of the collection, preservation and evaluation of Indian melon landraces to prevent further genetic erosion in melon diversity and determine new resistance genes to combat new pathogens and pests and new races of pathogens are also discussed.
