The variance analysis showed significant difference for all the traits among the genotypes except fruit weight. High estimates of heritability coupled with the higher genetic advance were observed for equitorial circumeference of fruit and number of seeds per fruit. Yield per plant, the most important economic trait exhibited highest positive association with fruit weight. Path coefficient at genetic level showed higher and positive direct effect on yield. Fruit weight had higher and positive direct effect on yield at genotypic level. This indicated thatdirect selection based on fruit weight results in an appreciable improvement in total yield.
