In garden pea, most of the varieties/germplasm lines have single pod on each node while few varieties have double pod. But this is the first genetic stock which has triple pod on every node. Due to higher number of pods, the yield/plant is just double than other pea varieties. Developing three pods per node increased yield over one pod and two pods per node (Gritton, 1986). This line was developed through hybridization between VRP-5 (single pod at each node and early in maturity) and PC-531 (double pods at each node and medium in maturity) followed by selection. Crosses were made in 2007 at research farm of Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi. Single plant selection was done in F3 generation and plant to row progeny was maintained. Now this line is almost homozygous and stable. Not Available |
