77%,15%and7%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability.
Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisinsustainablecondition.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance.
Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis129mmforanaverageannualrainfallof776mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(189mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis368(=129+189+50)
Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis488mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas610mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby242mm,i.e.(610-368).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly54%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason.
ThegroundwaterleveldataobtainedfromDept.ofMines&GeologyfortheneareststationHireshindhogi.Thegraphdepictsthegroundwaterlevelsduringtheyears2008-2016wereslightlyvarying,whereasduringthe2017wasfoundconstant.
