Shrimp and finfish farming have shown phenomenal growth in the last decade in India producing protein rich health food and earning valuable foreign exchange. Feed is a major input in shrimp and fish farming. The development of nutritionally balanced feed involves understanding the dietary requirements of candidate species, selection of feed ingredients, formulation of feeds and appropriate processing technology for producing water stable pellet feeds. Depending upon the type of farming, a wide range of feeds are used for feeding stocked shrimp and fish. While no feed is used in traditional farming systems, supplementary and balanced feeds are used in extensive and semi-intensive aquaculture. Not Available |
