Description The experiment was conducted during 2004–06 to evaluate genetic analysis of moisture-stress tolerance in the segregating populations in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Flori & Paol.), New Delhi. Fifty F3 and F4 families of bread wheat derived lines from a cross of resistant parent (‘HD 2781’) and susceptible parent (‘HD 2687’) were evaluated in the moisture stress and irrigated conditions using randomized complete block design. Five drought tolerance indices, viz drought tolerance index, stress tolerance, drought susceptibility index, mean productivity and geometric mean productivity were used for evaluation of the material. Analysis of variance indicated the genetic diversity among the families for all the selection indices except droughty susceptibility index. The significant positive correlation of yield (under optimum condition) with mean productivity, geometric mean productivity and drought tolerance index were observed for both the season and negative correlation with drought susceptibility index and tolerance in moisturestress revealed that selection could be conducted for high mean productivity, geometric mean productivity and drought tolerance index under both the environments. Cluster analysis of the populations using the yield (stress condition), yield (normal condition), drought tolerance index, drought susceptibility index, tolerance, mean productivity and geometric mean productivity categorized the genotypes into 6 groups each having 12, 6, 10, 5, 11 and 7 genotypes in both the crop seasons.
