Description A study was conducted with 2001-2002 to determine the suitability of boiling water test in the prediction of leek seed viability and to compare this test with standard germination. In this study, the mean gennination of unaged leek seeds varied from 1.28 to 86.35 % depending on the cultivars. While the range of boiling water test was between 1.28 and 50.18 ?6, the range for gemination of unaged leek seeds was between 1.28 to 86.35 %. The viability of aged and unaged leek seeds in boiling water test was correlated with standard gern~ination test. Generally, the aged seeds for all leek cultivars had the lowest water absorbstion values and had the highest electrical conductivity values. In conclusion, boiling water test as a new viability test for leek seed could be used a rapid method for determining the viability in leek seeds.
