Broodstock of Pinctada margaritifera has been successfully developed in the marine hatchery at the Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of CMFRI. Five successful spawnings were achieved in the hatchery. However, due to high temperature and salinity fluctuations, larval rearing could not be completed. Successful spat settlement was achieved in the 3rd larval cycle. Spats collected from Lawson’s Bay were reared in the hatchery and the broodstock developed within a period of 18 months. Not Available |
