Two species of xenophthalmid crabs are recorded from the state of Maharashtra in northwestern India. Xenophthalmus garthii Sankarankutty, 1969, originally described from northern Kerala in India, is rediscovered, and the species proves to be a member of Anomalifrons Rathbun, 1931, a genus not previously known from the Indian Ocean. The taxonomy of this species is discussed and compared with its only congener, A. lightana Rathbun, 1931, from Southeast and East Asia. Xenophthalmus wolffii Takeda & Miyake, 1970, is recorded for first time from the coast of Mumbai; the species is otherwise known from various parts of the Indian Ocean.
