The arid region is spread over 38.7 million hectane mainly in states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh. The area is marked by extreme chimatic conditions due to which the cultivation of traditional crops is non-economical. In a situation such as this, arid horticulure has ample scope to develop the arid regions. The present communication attempts to perform an overview of the technologies developed which can be used to make arid ecosystem a horticulural bowl and provide income and nutritional security to the inhabitants.
