Description A field experiment was carried out during 2002-03 and 2003-04 to study the response of organic amendments and biofertilizers on growth, yield and quality attributes of Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis (Lour.) Rupr.). Combined use of organic amendments coupled with seedling inoculation In either phosphate solubilizing microorganisms or vesicular arbuscular mychorrhizae registered head yield at par to control (conventional fertilization). Sole application of farmyard manure or digested sludge andfor its combined use with phosphate solubilizing microorganisms significantly increased the dry matter and total carbohydrate content of head. In comparison to conventional fertilization, the vitamin C content in head was noticed 43.8% more in farmyard manure (20 tonnes/ha), 36.5% more in digested sludge (20 tonnes/ha) and 22.6% more in combined use both the organic manures (10 tonnes/ha each). The total carotenoids were significantly higher under combined use of organic amendments and seedling inoculation in either Azotobacter or in phosphate solubilizing microorganisms. Dietary fiber content was markedly increased with use of farmyard manure (20 tonnes/ha).
