Apratylenchoides homoglans sp. nov. is described from soil and roots of chrysanthemum in Bangalore, Karnataka State, India. It differs from A. belli in having two annules in cephalic region as compared with three or two in the latter, a smaller stylet (14-15 µm in females and 13.8-15 µm in males in A. homoglans vs. 16-18 µm long in females and 15-17 µm in males of A. belli) with round posteriorly sloping knobs, a shorter distance between stylet and dorsal gland orifice (3.0-3.5 µm in A. homoglans vs. 4-6 µm in A. belli) and symmetrical subventral oesophageal glands (asymmetrical in size and location in A. belli). A. homoglans causes browning in chrysanthemum roots at initial stages of infection which later leads to blackening of the whole root. Not Available |
