Viruses are known to infect almost every plant species and they inflict severe damages in several cultivated crops. Although large number of studies are done to characterize and manage these fast evolving viruses, till date there are only few estimates of losses caused by the plant viral diseases. Unless realistic estimates are made for the economic impact due to the vagaries of plant viral diseases, it would not be possible to implement disease management schemes aimed at economic control. In this article we have made an effort to put together the assessment of economic impact due to different plant viral diseases in different crop plants.
