Description An experiment was conducted during the 4 consecutive summers of 1999-2000, at Kukumseri (Lahaul valley) to identify the varieties in pea (Pisum sativum) - pea and pea - buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum Gaertn) crop sequences. Results revealed that pea - pea crop sequence was the most productive and remunerative as compared to pea - buckwheat sequence. Pea varieties 'Azad PI' - "Arkcl' (15.24 tonnes/ha) and 'Palampriya' - 'Arkel' (15.04 tonnes/ha) remaining statistically at par resulted in significantly higher pea equivalent. The lowest pea equivalent (7.96 tonnes/ha) was found in 'Ageta matter' - ~Local' buckwheat crop sequence. Production efficiency was the highest with 'Azad' - 'Arkel' (92 kg! halday) followed by 'Palampriya' - 'Arkel' (87 kg/ha/day) sequence. The total monetary gains (retums/ha/day) sustainable yield index and sustainable value index were also recorded the maximum in 'Azad', - 'Arkel' followed by 'Palampriya'' Arkel'. The highest benefit: cost ratio was associated with pea varieties'Azad PI' -'Arkel' (4.61) followed by pea variety 'Palampriya' - 'Local' buckwheat variety (4.45). Land-use efficiency varied from 34.2 ('Ageta matter' - 'Local' buckwheat) to 48.7% ('Arkel' - 'Palampriya') with the different crop sequences.
