Description |
A field experiment was conducted during the winter (rabi) season of 2004-05 and 2005-06 to study the effect of various herbicides and their mixtures on weeds and yield of wheat in Jammu region. Application of fenoxaprop +metribuzin (120+100 g/ha), sulfosulfuron+2,4-D (25+500 glha), clodinafop+metsulfuron methyl (60+2 g/ha), isoproturon+2,4-D (g/ha), metribuzin (175 or 200 g/ha) significantly reduced both grass and broad leaf weeds besides the N-uptake by weeds, whereas fenaxoprop (120 giha) and clodinafop (60 gka) proved effective against grass weeds only and metsulfuron methyl (4 g/ha) and 2,4-D (750 g/ha) controlled broad leaf weeds significantly than weedy check and other herbicide treatments in comparison thereby resulting in significant increase in the effective tillerslm and yield of wheat during both the years of experimentation. Application of metribuzin proved slightly phytotoxic to wheat crop, whereas isoproturon+2,4-D (750+500 g/ha) proved to be the best economical treatment. Maximum grain yield and effective tillerslm were recorded in weed free plots during both years.
