A study was conducted during 2001-02 to evaluate 400 advanced selections of castor (Ricinus communis L.) in an augmented randomized block design with 3 checks replicated 5 times after every 45 rows. Among these, 32 lines were selected for high seed yield, yield components and field tolerance to Botrytis under natural incidence. Preliminary evaluation of these 32 promising varieties during 2002-03 both for seed yield and physiological parameters, like total dry matter, leaf area index resulted in identification of 2 promising varieties' DCS 105'and'DCS 106'which have been promoted to multi-location trials.
