Description |
A long-term field experiment was conducted since rainy and winter seasons of 1978-79 to 1987--88 on a clay-loam soil, to evaluate the cffect of continuous maize (Zea mays L.)-wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Paol.) cropping system on soil fertility and stability in crop yield. Application of nitrogen @ 120 kg/ha and phosphoms @ 17.5 kg/ha to each crop significantly increased the grain yield of maize (2 025 and 1 803 kg/ha) and wheat (3 112 and 2 914 kg/ha) respectively. The fertilizer application resulted in building up the organic C,P and K status of the soil.
