Description |
A field experiment was conducled on a sandy soil to study the effect of tillage methods and irrigated crops onphysical properties of soil after wet-season puddled rice (Oryza sativa L.) during 1990 and 1991. The upland cropsgrown in sequence with rice were blackgram (Phaseolus mungo L.), groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.), castor (Ricinuscommunius L.) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), Land preparation with tractor-drawn mouldboard plough oncefollowed by rotovator tWice, and ploughing once with tractor-drawn mouldboard plough + disc harrowing recordedlower bulk density (1.31,1.33 g/cc), higher porosity, infitration rate and hydraulic conductivity (7.3 cm/hr). Groundnutrecorded lower bulk density, higher hydraulic conductivity and infiltration rale compared with other crops.
