Planthoppers, such as brown planthopper (BPH) and white backed planthopper (WBPH) are the most important destructive pests of rice. Even though 40 resistance genes for BPH and 19 genes for WBPH have been identifed from different rice genotypes and its wild relatives, most of these genes are ineffective in India. In our study a breeding line RP2068 was identifed as resistant to both the planthopper. Based on the molecular allelism test with reported linked markers and RT-PCR validation for reported candidate genes suggested that the gene present in RP2068 are new genes/QTLs. No gene has been mapped yet on chromosome# 1 against the WBPH, RP2068 may have new gene(s) conferring resistance. Not Available |
