The seeds of three soybean genotypes with black, green, and yellow seed coat colors were
treated with gamma irradiation at a dose of 0.5, 2.0, and 5.0 kGy. The ability to inhibit
iron-induced lipid peroxidation, superoxide anion scavenging activity, and metal chelation
activity were observed to be increased at 0.5 kGy. However, bleomycin-dependent DNA oxidation was significantly increased in all three genotypes at 2.0 kGy. Reducing power in green
and yellow genotypes was also observed to be higher at 2.0 kGy. The black genotype showed
decreased LPO and higher antioxidant properties as compared to other genotypes.
