Description |
A laboratory incubation study was conducted during 2008 to evaluate the levels of arsenic concentration from the soils of contaminated and uncontaminated zone and by treating it with different doses of vermicompost, well decomposed farmyard manure and arsenic. The extractable arsenic was found to be lowered by the applied vermicompost and farmyard manure at different period of incubation. The supporting pot culture experiment with ‘ IET 1444’ rice (Oryza sativa L.) by different doses of applied arsenic, vermicompost and farmyard manure demonstrated the lowering of the arsenic uptake by the influence of vermicompost and farmyard manure, irrespective of the different levels of arsenic into the soil. Hence, the incorporated organics seemed to have some moderating effects in releasing arsenic in the soilplant systems.
