Description A random survey in the native breeding tract in 3 districts of Haryana State, viz. Bhiwani, Hisar and Jhajjar has shown decline in population of Hariana cattle. Sixteen factors were identified for decline of this breed. Among all the factors responsible for decline: Marketing for male calves and dry animals, impact ofMurrah buffalo, animal behaviour, and reduction in pastureland emerged as the serious problems and an overall RBQ (rank based quotient) values ofthese problems were 88, 76, 70 and 56%, respectively. Measures to check the decline of population and strategies for its conservation and improvement have also been suggested.
