Description A study was carried out in milk samples from 1 253 quarters of cows and buffaloes in Hisar, and nearby area during 1998-2000. Out of 142 cows and 415 buffaloes,59.86% and 66.27%, respectively, were found culturally positive, whereas quarter wise prevalence found to be 52.75 and 50.59%, respectively. Both in cows and buffaloes single quarter and rear quarter involvement was maximum. Majority of cases occurred during third lactation, between 5 to 7 years of age. Maximum number of cases occurred during September, October and November, and during first 3 months of lactation. Out of 613 isolates Staphylococcus spp. was most prevalent organism. As many as 99.46% of the bacteria isolated were found sensitive to enrofloxacin.
