Sunfishes belong to the family Molidae under the order Tetraodontiformes. The commonly occurring species of sunfish from Indian waters are Mola mola, Ranzania laevis, R. truncata. R. typus, Masturus lanceolatus, M. oxyuropterus (Balaji and Murugan, 2008). These species are distributed worldwide in tropical to temperate seas and are generally known as ocean sunfish. This report is about the first capture of Slender Sunfish (Ranzania laevis) from the Sagar Island coast of West Bengal. Not Available |
