Description The extent of damage to chromatin material caused by pollution could be assessed by SCE technique. The buffaloesmaintained at Livestock Research Station, Kattupakkam, Madras, were used as controls and buffalo grades maintained inand around the industrial areas were screened for SCE frequency. The average SCE frequency in the Murrah and Surtibreeds maintained in the farm were estimated to be 11.11±0.164 and 14.05±0.127 respectively. The buffalo gradesmaintained in the vcinity of the industries showed a significant increase in the SCE frequency (19.63±0.115) indicatingrisk of genotoxic manifestations.
