Description Healing of infected cutaneous wounds was evaluated following application of seabuckthorn (Hippoplzae rhamnoides) ointment in 9 male calves. The wounds were treated with liquid paraffin in group I, with 5% povidone iodine ointment in group 2 and with seabuckthorn ointment in group 3. The efficacy ofdifferent treatments was monitored by clinical, haematological and microbiological parameters at 0, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. The inflammation subsided earlier in groups 2 and 3. The wounds ofgroup 3 also showed faster and most extensive granulation tissue formation in the early stages ofwound healing. These wounds were markedly drier and showed least amount of exudation. However, the contraction ofthe wounds was comparable in all the groups. No significant changes were recorded in various other clinical and haematological parameters, irrespective ofthe treatment adopted except that there was a significant neutrophilia before the treatment and significant lymphocytosis after the treatment.
