Description |
Report of TAC 36 held in Rome, March 11-18, 1985, Professor Guy Camus presiding. Professor A. H. Bunting presented the TAC training study, and TAC prepared a commentary on it for the CGIAR. TAC considered the report of the combined External Program and Management Review of IBPGR. Rather than decide immediately on ways in which IBPGR could strengthen its research capacity and improve its management environment, TAC appointed a sub-committee to study the options. Meanwhile, it sent the review to the CGIAR with a commentary, for discussion in June 1985.TAC discussed research needs in Africa with inputs from the cosponsors, Professor Carl Eicher, the IARCs, and the CGIAR impact study. This was seen as a step towards future interaction with centers and national institutions. Much of the meeting was spent discussing research priorities, leading towards the preparation of a draft strategy paper for consideration at TAC 37. A revised version of the center directors' report on inter-center cooperation was discussed. TAC urged the directors to send it to the CGIAR. Guy Vallaeys reported on actions taken by WARDA which had resulted in withdrawal by the CGIAR chairman of the hold on approval of WARDA's 1985 budget. TAC considered briefly a center directors' paper on "The IARCs and Human Nutrition" to be discussed further at TAC 37.
