Description This is a review of the issues on CGIAR support to research on food legumes, considered important because of their high protein content and nitrogen-fixing capacity. The paper covers the background studies done, (by Roberts and Swaminathan) and the existing research programs on the dry bean and soybean at CIAT and IITA. As between the proposed courses of action, establishment of a separate center or partition of responsibilities among existing centers, it comes down in favor of the latter. Agenda item presented at TAC Second Meeting, October 1971.
