Review prepared by a Rockefeller Foundation scientist as a follow up to Bellagio meeting of April 1970 concerning the idea of an international institute for upland crops, emphasizing unirrigated, rainfed, highly populous areas of Asia which had been largely bypassed by new yield increasing technologies. Proposals by other Rockefeller staff for an institute on rice and upland crops, a sorghum-millet institute, and an upland crops institute are appended.
