Description Summary report of the annual meeting of the CGIAR held October 24-28, 1994 in Washington, DC, Ismail Serageldin presiding. Columbia attended as a new member. Alex McCalla delivered the Crawford Memorial lecture on agriculture and food needs to 2025. The Chair announced commitment by donors of an additional $20.1 million, triggering release of $10.1 million from the World Bank emergency allocation, fully funding the 1994 program.In plenary and ad hoc committee, the Group discussed papers on the research agenda, a governance framework, and new financing arrangements. These were to be revised for presentation at the ministerial meeting in Lucerne in February 1995.1995 funding of $271 million was approved. Agreements placing the germplasm resources of 12 centers under FAO auspices were signed. The Group discussed a report from a panel on intellectual property rights, and a report on progress toward a systemwide genetic resources program. Chairman Serageldin would act as CGIAR ambassador for genetic resources issues, advised by a committee. TAC's report on systemwide and ecoregional initiatives was discussed at length, but the status of funding was not resolved.An ad hoc committee reported on the EPMR of IIMI and TAC's progress in considering external review processes. The Rockefeller Foundation reported on the establishment of the livestock center, ILRI, and IPGRI on absorbing INIBAP. Other reports were made by TAC, CBC. CDC, the Finance and Oversight Committees, PARC, Downes Ryan International, IFPRI on the Population Conference and the 2020 Vision initiative, and ICRISAT on the Desertification Convention. IITA received the King Baudouin Award for work on resistance to black sigatoka in plantains and bananas.
