Description |
The report of the quinquennial review mission to ILRAD. Document includes letters of transmittal from TAC Chairman Ralph Cummings to the Chairman of the Group, and from review panel chair Guy Camus to the TAC Chairman. The report was discussed at TAC 25 and 26, and considered in connection with the ILRAD presentation at CGIAR International Centers Week, 1981. It was recognized in the discussion that ILRAD had been through a difficult period and implementation of the recommendations would need in part to await actions by the new Director General. The report starts with a summary of conclusions and recommendations, divided into sections providing an overview of ILRAD's achievements and future guidelines, research management and priorities, administration and organizational structure, and training, communication, and technology transfer. The report recommends that ILRAD continue with its efforts to control trypanosomiasis and East Coast Fever (theileriosis) by immunological or related means. Five priority projects are identified for ILRAD's work on trypanosomiasis and five for theileriosis. The panel made detailed recommendations concerning research management at ILRAD, administrative and staffing policy, ways of facilitating technical transfer to African counterparts, and the priority afforded to training.
