Description |
Minutes of the International Center Directors meeting, Washington DC, 23-24 July 1976 record discussions about international staff compensation, the system to follow for cost of living adjustments, currency of payment for staff salaries, and options for selecting retirement schemes. In the area of research, discussions relate to cooperation with IADS on action-oriented projects focused on production, world hunger and maintaining links between production and nutrition, and provision of funds under US Title 12 legislation for collaborative research between centers, US universities and national programs. The center directors discuss criticism by environmentalists that plant breeding varieties lack genetic diversity, rely on heavy use of inputs, lead to greater prevalence of insects and diseases, benefit the large more than the small farmers and are inferior to traditional varieties in nutritional qualities. They agree to counteract the criticism by publicizing the centers relevant work and also through publication in reputable journals
