Description Toxoplasmosis, an immensely significant zoonotic disease, is caused by coccidian Toxoplasma gondii. Data onprevalence of the parasite in economically important livestock species from India is scanty. An antibody detectionELISA specific for T. gondii was laboratory standardized using purified tachyzoite lysate antigen of T. gondii (RHstrain). Sera samples (168) from sheep (60), goat (63) and cattle (45) were procured from regions of Uttar Pradesh andWest Bengal for assessing the sero-surveillance of T. gondii specific antibodies. Among the small ruminants, 31.66%and 17.46% of the total sera samples collected from sheep and goats, respectively, were detected positive for T. gondiispecific antibodies. The sero-surveillance of toxoplasmosis among cattle was 28.88%. The study has relevance fordeveloping control strategies against this zoonotic organism.
