Description |
The effect of a single or repeated oral dose of monocrotophos (2 mg/kg body weight) on certain biochemical constituents was studied in the blood and liver of rats maintained under normal, protein deficient and protein supplemented dietary conditions. Acute administration at varying intervals induced variable responses. A hyperglycemic and glycogenolytic impact at 12 hr was followed by enhanced glycogenesis accompanied by hypoglycemia at 24 hr in normal rats. In protein malnourished rats, a pronounced hyperglycemia associated with hypolactemia was noticed at 6 hr. Blood lactic acid level continued to be depressed indicating muscular weakness. Chronic exposure of pesticide elevated blood glucose and hepatic lactic acid levels in normal rats. In protein deprived animals, hyperglycemia and hyperlactemia with a concomitant fall in hepatic glycogen and lactic acid were observed. The animals were able to combat the toxic stress of monocrotophos on biochemical constituents when fed on a protein rich diet (20°0) A hyperlacternic Impact noticed on 7th or 15th day was also alleviated on 30th and 60th day post treatment.
