Description Uteri of the 30 adult cyclic and apparently healthy river buffaloes were preserved in 10% formal saline solution. Histological and histomorphometric (point count) studies were adopted. In luteal phase, the mast cells distribution at perimetrium and myometrium were significantly higher than the follicular phase. The distribution of these cells at deep, middle, and superficial regions of endometrium in luteal phase were significantly higher than the follicular phase. The distribution of plasma cells at deep, middle, regions of endometrium in luteal phase were significantly higher than the follicular phase. In the endometrium, mast cells in comparison with plasma cells in the luteal phase were significantly higher than the follicular phase. The conclusion is that (i) both the cell types are significantly higher in luteal than the follicular phase, and (ii) there is concordance and cooperativeness between these 2 cell types in uterine tissue, thus both of them cause enhancement of uterine tissue immunity in luteal phase.
