Description |
TAC's proposal for a CGIAR initiative in vegetable research, in the form of a commentary that amends and highlights a study by Colin McClung who served as a consultant to TAC. TAC proposed support initially to research on tomatoes, peppers, onions, and green leafy vegetables, and gave priority to the needs of Africa The organizational model is a set of regional research networks, with a small scientific support entity, the International Service for Vegetable Research (ISVR). The role of AVRDC, located in Taiwan, is considered. The proposal grew out of the high priority assigned to vegetables in TAC's 1986 study of CGIAR research priorities. The proposal was considered by TAC at its 44th Meeting in October 1987 and its 45th Meeting in March 1988, and by the CGIAR in May 1988, and again in May 1989.
