Description Report of the TAC fact finding mission to IFDC in May 1989 chaired by R. Dudal. IFDC was one of ten nonassociated centers being considered for sponsorship by the CGIAR. Missions to these centers were to provide TAC with the information needed for recommending whether the Group should incorporate the center. The report described IFDC's history, mandate, and clients. The IFDC program was examined in terms of its strategy and constraints, with attention to its nitrogen, phosphorous, and sulfur research programs. The report also examined the results and impacts of IFDC research and training programs. An overview of IFDC's governance and management structure included a brief description of its methods of operations and relations with other institutions, including national programs, IARCs, advanced research institutions, UN organizations, and the fertilizer sector. A profile of the Center's physical, human, and financial resources followed. The report concluded by relaying issues and concerns expressed by IFDC regarding the prominent place of special projects in its work program, and the Center's determination to clarify the common public confusion between sustainable agriculture and low-input agriculture. There were no recommendations. One of nine such reports considered in closed session at TAC 49.
