Description |
Paper prepared for TAC at FAO Regional Office in Cairo as a follow up to a discussion at the first TAC meeting of a request by the 1970 FAO Near East Regional Conference that action be taken to intensify agricultural research in the region. The paper was based on internal discussions in FAO, and with other organizations including the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations. It identifies improved use of irrigated areas and integration of livestock and crop production in rainfed lands as region wide research priorities. FAO accordingly recommends creation of a new regional research center and proposes a mission to evaluate the proposal. The mission would receive technical and administrative support from FAO, and submit its report to TAC through the FAO Regional Office in Cairo. Agenda item presented at TAC Third Meeting, April 1972.
