An Information Note, marked draft, prepared by FAO at the request of the CGIAR chairman for International Centers Week 1999, on the status of ongoing negotiations for a revision of the International Undertaking on Plant Genetic Resources within the FAO Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA).The note considers two matters in of direct relevance to the CGIAR and its Centers: the International Network of Ex Situ Collections under FAO Auspices, and the Global Plan of Action (GPA) for the Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. It then reports on negotiations for the revision of the International Undertaking, in harmony with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The final section draws conclusions on matters of relevance for the CGIAR.Agenda document at the CGIAR meeting held in October 1999.
