Description |
Overview of a proposed process for integrating CGIAR research and activities in the two subregions of the Central and West Asia and North Africa Region (CWANA): West Asia and North Africa (WANA), and Central Asia and the Caucasus (CAC).The process entailed the second phase of the CGIAR's development of a regional approach to research and priority setting, which ICARDA was assigned to lead by articulating the Group's role in priority setting in CWANA, and developing a coherent CGIAR strategy there. The process ICARDA prescribed involved extensive dialogue with national agricultural research systems in the region and the two leading subregional for a in CWANA-the Association of Agricultural Research Institutes in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA) and the CAC NARS Forum-in order to identify and capitalize on their respective comparative advantages. It would also involve widening the range of participating stakeholders to include farmers' organizations, NGOs, universities, and private sector firms. Progress-to-date and a tentative schedule for further discussions are itemized.
