Description |
Transpaille, a plant set up in the abattoirs of Thies in Senegal, is transforming waste products into gas and compost. More than a tonne of animal intestine and gut is fermented daily in a 'digester' vat of 40m3. The decomposed waste makes fine organic fertilizer, which is then sold to the nurserymen who supply the local market gardeners. Poultry farmers and sugar refineries can also use the same technique, which has the double advantage of dealing with waste in a way that is environmentally friendly and increases agricultural yields.
