As part of their forty-fifth reunion celebration, the Radcliffe College Class of 1958 reunion organizers commissioned a survey of their class. The study, funded by the Class of 1958, consisted of a mailed survey questionnaire designed by the reunion chairs and Murray Research Center. The study covers topics including education, careers, families, retirement activities, recreational interests, care-giving responsibilities, and political views. In the fall of 2002, reunion survey questionnaires were sent to all living members of the Class of 1958 for whom the alumnae office had addresses. One hundred and two questionnaires were completed and returned. Most of the respondents were between sixty-five and sixty-seven years of age. All of the respondents are college graduates and seventy-nine percent received post-graduate degrees. The questionnaire consisted of pre-coded items about education, life goals, occupations and work patterns, political views, religious and community involvement, retirement activities, use of technology and care-giving responsibilities. Open-ended items included questions about decision-making in the family, importance of career, experiences and involvements with the women's movement, important issues in contemporary women's lives, and reflections on Radcliffe College. Original questionnaires and computer data are available. Follow-up may be possible. The Center also holds reunion surveys for the classes of 1943 (#974), 1947 (#571), 1952 (#125), 1953 (#143), and 1962 (#567) as well as the Radcliffe College semi-centennial survey (#619) and the centennial survey (#998). |
